How Does the Website Module Work?

Understand the process behind monitoring websites for brand protection

The Website Module helps you monitor websites for potential brand infringements. It works by scanning the general web for unauthorized use of your intellectual property, including brand names, logos, copyrighted images, and product listings. Once detected, potential infringements are reported to your dashboard for review and action.

1. Setting Up Website Monitoring: The Foundation of Website Protection

The entire Website Monitoring process begins with setting up a Website Monitoring Specification. Don’t worry, our analysts will make sure to handle this part for you. This specification acts as a blueprint, containing all the necessary instructions for conducting a scan. The details include:

  • Keywords: The brand names, phrases, or terms that you want to monitor.
  • Images: Product images or logos to detect unauthorized visual use.
  • Filters: Criteria to refine and analyze the findings.
  • Related Records: Relevant intellectual property records that help auto-generate enforcement actions.

2. Automated Monitoring and Data Collection

Once the monitoring specification is set, the system continuously scans the general web for matches to your specified keywords or images. Here’s how it operates:

  • Web Search: The system searches for instances where your keywords or images appear on websites.
  • Website Visit: If a match is found, the system visits the detected website to collect essential information.
  • Data Collection: The system gathers key details, including:
    • Full page screenshot: Captures how the content appears on the site.
    • Title: Records the title of the page for context.
    • Host: Identifies the hosting provider.
    • Registrar: Provides information about the domain registration.
    • IP Address: Tracks the server's location.
  • Direct Access: All collected data is uploaded to RightHub, allowing you to review the findings with all necessary information in one place.

3. Uploading Results to the RightHub Platform

After the scanning process is complete, the filtered findings are uploaded to the RightHub platform. This centralization allows for easy review and management. Each finding includes:

  • A screenshot of the detected content.
  • Detailed metadata about the website and infringement.
  • A direct link to the original website for verification.
  • Additional details like host, IP address, and registrar information.

4. Reviewing and Taking Action on Findings

Once the findings are uploaded, you can take one of the following actions within RightHub:

  • Not Relevant: Mark the finding as non-infringing or irrelevant to your brand.
  • On Hold: Indicate that the finding needs further review before taking any action.
  • Authorize: Confirm that the finding is legitimate, either because it’s from an authorized seller or not considered problematic.
  • Enforce: Initiate the takedown process for infringing content directly from the platform.

The chosen action updates the status of the finding, helping you track progress and outcomes.

5. Status Updates

When an action is taken, the status of the finding updates automatically within the RightHub platform. This status indicates the current state of the finding and guides the next steps, whether it's awaiting enforcement, marked as authorized, or flagged as not relevant.

Conclusion

The Website Module is a comprehensive tool for detecting and managing brand infringements on websites. By setting up detailed monitoring specifications, automating data collection, and leveraging RightHub for assessment, you ensure efficient protection of your brand against unauthorized use on the web.
